Cape Shipping S.A. was founded in 1987 in Athens with a clear mission: to manage vessels on behalf of esteemed Principals.
Our team consists of experienced professionals dedicated to the shipping industry. We are committed to offering a comprehensive and ever-improving service to our Principals, while also prioritizing environmental responsibility, the safety of Owners’ and Charterers’ assets, and maintaining competitiveness in the market. Historically, our Principals have focused on the dry cargo market, Cape Shipping has thus managed a wide array of vessels – from Liberties and IHI Freedom Tweendeckers to Capesizes. Subsequently, we expanded our operations to include the container market.
MORE THAN THREE DECADES OF EXPERIENCE

The roots of our Owner Principals’ involvement in the shipping industry stretch back to early 19th century in the Greek island of Kasos. The more recent history commences in 1960. At that time, they engaged Tropis Shipping as their shipbrokers in London.
1960 -
Following a merger with two other entities, Tropis regained its independence and became Cape Shipping’s shipbroking agents in London in 1987, the same year when Cape Shipping S.A. was established in Athens.
1986-1987 -
Between 2001 and 2005, our Principals embarked on an ambitious new building program, constructing 2 Panamax and 4 Cape Size vessels in South Korea. These vessels capitalized on the substantial surge in freight and hire rates during the early to mid-2000s. They were eventually sold by our Principals before the market retraction.
2001-2005 -
Over the years, our company effectively managed, operated, and chartered a diverse range of ships – from Liberties, IHI Freedom Tweendeckers, and Handy Size vessels to larger entities like Panamax, Cape Size, and VLCC. The core of our fleet was comprised of 15000 mt dwat IHI Freedom Tweendeckers. These dependable vessels, though exceeding 30 years of service, continued trading to various European destinations, including the U.K., Finland, Sweden, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and the USA. This era concluded with the sale of the last vessel in 2011.
In 2010, our Principals initiated orders for 3 x 81,600 mts ‘Kamsar Max’ vessels from South Korea’s Sungdong Yard, laying the foundation for our newly managed fleet.
2005-2010 -
In March 2012, Cape Shipping concluded its association with Tropis Shipping, opting to centralize services for Principals within a single office. We take pride in incorporating former Tropis Shipping personnel into our ranks, ensuring seamless continuity and a consistent standard of service.
In 2014, our Principals ventured into the container market’s feeder sector. Collaborating with Wenchong shipyard, they commissioned 6 x 2200 TEUs vessels. The following year saw an additional order placed with Hanjin Subic for 2 x 6900 TEUs vessels.
2010-2015 -
In 2017, another order was placed with Wenchong shipyard, resulting in 4 x 2700 TEUs vessels. Our present fleet includes both bulk carriers and containers, showcasing our diversified portfolio.
2015-2020 -
By 2020, the company had rekindled its interest in the capesize market, embarking on an acquisition strategy for capesize units.
